Therin Soldier Wolf, 55, of St. Stephen’s died at his home on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. A rosary will be recited with the wake at 7:00pm on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Eagle Hall at St. Stephens. The graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 19, 2017, the Sharpnose Cemetery.

Therin Odyss Soldier Wolf was born on January 28, 1962 in Lander, WY to Mark Joseph and Florita Revena (Brown) Soldier Wolf. He was the great grandson of Chief Sharpnose and Chief Solider Wolf. He was given his Indian name of “Blue Duck”. He grew up on the Wind River Reservation and graduated from Riverton High School. After high school he attended Job Corp in Utah where he received numerous certificates for auto mechanics, cultural monitoring, firefighting, NAGPRA (Native American Grave Protection and Re-Patriatron Act) and Cultural Resource Management.

After completing Job Corp he returned to the Wind River Reservation where he lived all of his life. He traveled to different places and always came home to the place he loved and wanted to protect and preserve for future generations.

He was an Archaeological Technician with the Arapaho Tribal for over 35 years. He was on the THPO Advisory Board Council. He was a mentor for younger people wanting to learn the preservation of the tribal land, customs, and the culture. He was also a seasonal firefighter with the Arapaho Tribe. He was an avid protector of his traditional life and elders. He took his work ethic seriously and always made sure the job he was doing was done correctly the first time. He was the last one to leave a work site no matter what ever he was doing or where he was. He was well known for his carpentry work. If he didn’t know how to do a project he researched it until he could do it correctly.

He was baptized into the Catholic Faith and also participated in the Northern Arapaho Sundance. He attended sweats to pray for all people and also danced with prayers for everyone.

He was on numerous Pow-Wow committees, the Northern Arapaho Pow-Wow committee off and on, he loved to volunteer and help in any way he could.

He was an avid Grass Dancer and Traditional Dancer participating in Pow-Wow’s all over and spent 15 summers at the Cheyenne Frontier Days “Indian Village” educating people on the native ways and customs. He also loved horseback riding, fishing and being in the wonderful outdoors of Wyoming. He is survived by his parents, Mark and Florita Solider Wolf; sons, Therin Dewey, Jr., Martin Gonzalez, Jr., Eagle Flute Gonzalez, Hista Soldier Wolf, Three Stars Friday, Chivalo Soldier Wolf, Gambit Soldier Wolf, David Dewey, and Orn Solider Wolf; daughters, Marquette Holly Dewey, Blue Moccasins Solider Wolf, Echo Solider Wolf, Shayni Fontenelle, Buffalo Villa, Stormy Friday, Chantell Soldier Wolf, and Rouge Solider Wolf; brothers, Lafe T. Solider Wolf, Scott Soldier Wolf, Annin Soldier Wolf, Harfic Soldier Wolf, Marcus Dewey, Justin Dewey, and James Dewey; sisters, Hansa Fay Ann Soldier Wolf, Avilia Rae Friday, Cassie Soldier Wolf, Yufna Soldier Wolf, Tracy Lavette Dewey, Inez Brown, and Velma Faller; grandchildren, Bradley, Red Plume, Marquelle, Carmella and Olive along with eleven he considered at his grandchildren; and close family members, Mr. & Mrs. Gilbert and Emily Brown all of Taos, NM and Tracie Cherette Dewey of MT.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jody Lynn Dewey; sister, Heidi Jo Soldier Wolf; brother, Ira Whiteplume; grandparents, Scott Dewey, Jane Warren, Richard Dick “Cool Cat” Brown, Sr., Anna Brown, and Inez Little; Sundance grandfather, Martin Yellowhair; uncles, Richard Brown, Jr., Peter Brown, and Patrick Brown; and aunts, Martina Brown and Patricia Brown.
