Wendell R. Coats of Durango, Colorado died peacefully in his sleep at his son’s home in Dallas Texas on Sunday August 14, 2011, after a brief fight with cancer. He was 70.

He was born May 19, 1941, in Denver, Colorado to Dorothy and William (Bill) Coats.

Wendell attended high school in Hanna, Wyoming, class of 1959 and Colorado State University, graduating in 1971 with a degree in Industrial Education. He attended the Frontier Bible School in Lagrange, Wyoming

Wendell will be missed but held in the hearts of those whom he touched. He will be remembered for his thirst for knowledge and willingness to share his knowledge with others. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. He was a Rotarian, Mason, and serviced in the US Marine Corps.

Wendell is survived by his sons Dell Coats (Ruth Coats) of Napa, Calif., Ward Coats (Natashia Coats), Drew Coats (Cheryl Coats), Colter Coats, his Sisters, Thelma Jones(Francis Jones) Mesquite Nv, Mary Riegert(Gary Riegert) of Mill, Wyoming and his brother Bill Coats(Nola Coats) of Green River, Wy, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Coats and mother, Dorothy Coats.

The family requests that donations be made in memory of Wendell to American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

His life will be celebrated in at a memorial service on Saturday September 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main Street, Riverton, WY.
