Betty Simon, 93, of Riverton, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Help for Health Hospice Home in Riverton. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 2:00 pm at St. James Episcopal Church, with Rev. Amy Mayes officiating.

Betty Lorraine Lewis was born February 28, 1921 in Alliance, NE to Lydell W. and Alice (Rockey) Lewis. She was their only child and lived in Alliance until she was twelve. At that time, she moved to Lander with her mother and stepfather where she graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School in 1939. While she was in high school, she participated in school plays and was a cheerleader.

She married Thomas F. Simon on April 25, 1942 in Billings, MT and they were married for sixty-two years until his death on March 11, 2005.

While her husband served in World War II, she worked for the Farm Security Administration in Riverton. After the war, the couple spent the remainder of their lives in Riverton. In addition to working at their family business, Riverton Sheet Metal, she also worked as a bookkeeper at Motor Parts and Klines.

She became a member of St. James Episcopal Church as an adult and served there in the Daughters of the King, the Altar Guild, and as a Sunday School teacher. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a Cub Scout den mother.

She enjoyed needlework, her dog, Dolly, fishing with her husband, and spending time at their cabin in Buffalo Valley. After their retirement, they were able to travel to various places in this country.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise (Dick) Johnson of Riverton; her daughter-in-law, Sue Simon of Meeteetsee; grandson, Eric (Nicole) Johnson of Casper; granddaughter, Deidra Johnson of Seattle, WA; great-granddaughters Claire and Audrey Johnson of Casper; son, Greg (Linda) Simon of Riverton; grandsons, Chris and Brian Simon of Riverton; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one great great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lydell and Alice Lewis; her husband, Thomas F. Simon; her son, Roger D. Simon; her grandson, Kyle N. Johnson; and her dear friend, Joe Gose.

Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church or the Help for Health Hospcice Home, in care of Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main Street, Riverton, WY 82501.
