Funeral services for Sophie Oldman Benally, 82, will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 10, 2015 at St. Stephens Catholic Church with Father Phil Wagner officiating. Interment will follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec 9th, at Great Plains Hall with a wake to follow at the Hall.

Mrs. Benally passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 3, 2015 at the Copper Ridge Rehabilitation Facility in West Jordan, Utah.

Sophie was born February 11, 1933, in Fort Washakie, Wyoming, daughter of Albert and Constance (Oldman) Willow. Her mother died during child birth, so she was raised by her Grandpa Jerome Oldman. When he died, she then was raised by Jason and Virginia Oldman.

She grew up on the Wind River and attended St. Stephens schools before moving to Utah when she was 18 years old. She remained in Utah where she raised her family. Sophie came back to Wyoming every year for traditional ceremonies and family activities. Throughout her life, Sophie lived in various cities in Utah, Wyoming and Oregon.

Mrs. Benally enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also loved driving around Wind River and traveling.

Survivors include her son, Anthony Lavadour of Salt Lake City, UT; daughters, Alvernia and Fay Lavadour of SLC, UT, Tawnee (Thomas) Knighton of St. George, UT, Karen (Rick) Gallegos of SLC, UT, Tammy Benally of SLC, UT and Raylene Alder of SLC, UT; brothers, William P. (Buddy) Oldman, Richard Willow, and Floyd Willow; sisters, Mary F. Bell, Cora Willow, Flora Willow, Frances Dewey, Thelma Dewey, Arlene and Ramona Tyler; nieces, Lou Oldman, Terry Teran, Benita (Darrell) Smith, Valerie J. Friday, Cheryl Little Bird, Carolyn (Charles) Dodge, Marilyn Eagle, Donna Norah, Ruth Moss, Luella Monroe and Mary Arthur; nephews, Gordon Wanstall, Steven M.
