Kahla Dawn Martinez, 17-year-old senior at Wind River High School at Pavillion, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, in a vehicle accident near Kinnear. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Wind River High School. Interment will be in Glenrock at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 6. A viewing will be held at the Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Kahla Dawn Martinez was born on May 13, 1991, in Douglas to Troy D. Martinez and Lorie (Stewart) Martinez. Miss Martinez was an Honor Roll student, active in sports, art, and writing, including two books she had authored. Her family said she loved animals and collected elephants and shoes. They said her favorite words were "Don't be a hater." Survivors include her parents, Troy and Becki Martinez of Pavillion; a brother, Johnny; sisters, Morgan and Renee; grandparents, city councilman Lee and Pam Martinez, Joyce and Charles Sherd, Jeff and Margaret Stewart, and Lou Bryant; a great grandmother, Mary Martinez; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorie; great grandparents, Eddy Martinez and Jack and Dorothy Raymond. Memorials may be made to the PAWS for Life Shelter, in care of the Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main, Riverton, WY 82501.
