Verna Rose Trosper Thunder, 90, of Fort Washakie passed away at her home on Sunday, August 5, 2018. A litany will be recited on at 6:00 pm Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at the Morning Star Church. A wake will follow at the Thunder residence, 318 Ethete Road, at 7:00 pm. A funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 10, 2018 at Wyoming Indian High School. The horseback riders will gather at Blue Sky Hall and lead the funeral procession to Friday cemetery.

Verna Rose Trosper was born on October 26, 1927 in Fort Washakie, WY to Allison and Maggie (Richards) Trosper. She grew up in the Mill Creek area and attended St. Michaels Boarding School and graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School.

She was a member of the Episcopal and Anglican Catholic Faiths.

On May 27, 1049 she married William Thunder, Jr. at St. Michaels Mission in Ethete, WY. She raised her family on the family ranch and was a lifelong resident of the Wind River Reservation.

She was a nanny for a family in Cody, WY, worked at Datel in Riverton, WY, was a Grandparent Counselor at Wyoming Indians Schools, and Ethete Senior Citizen Center as a cook’s helper.

She was a jockey on her brother’s relay team, enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, gardening, family outings and brandings. She was the backbone of the Thunder Ranch.

She was a member of the Trosper-Redman Auxiliary and St. Michaels Bishop Committee.

She is survived by her sons, Lydell A. Thunder, Franklin Martel, Richard Brannan, William Carpenter, Vernon Harris, John Enos, Glen Enos, Richard Ortiz, Bryan Trosper, Milton Trosper, Byron Sage, William Sage, Hubert Friday, and Dan Brown; adopted son, Dennis SunRhodes; godson, Wesley Martel; daughters, Marvene Thunder, Clarinda (Alfred) Calling Thunder, Janell (Harold) Thunder, Rhonda (Shannon) Glenmore, Regina Sage, Smyrna (Lloyd) Winn, Becky Sage, Arydenne Sage, Joetta (Ronnie) Armour, Rachel (George) Grant, Linda Hurtado, and Zette Underwood; goddaughters, Avis Garcia and Leslie Trosper; brothers, John St. Clair and William St. Clair; sisters, Velma Chavez, Bernadette Oberly, Bonnie Washakie, Lucille Foote, Violet Lajeunese, and Iva LeClair; numerous, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; three great great grandchildren; and the families of Friday, Sage, Trosper, and Goggles of the Wind River Reservation, her Oklahoma families Lumpmouth, Fletcher, Sleeper, Yellowhair, and Willey.

She was preceded in death by her husband William C. Thunder Jr., parents, Allison Trosper and Maggie Richards Trosper; grandparents, Byron and Smyrna Trosper; brothers, William “Willie” Trosper, James Trosper, Sr., Truman Friday, Ben Friday, Jr., Ned Trosper, George Trosper, Ebenezer Trosper, and Ruben St. Clair; sisters, Winnie Effie Friday, Hazel Sage, Mary Trosper, Caroline Goggles, Agnes Ortiz, Harlene LeBeau, and Leota Lajeunese; son, William Thunder, III; grandchildren, Dodi Harris and Evan Smith, Markus Thunder, and Taylor Harris; and adopted son, Edward King.
