Funeral services for Evelyn Esther Groathouse, 93, of Riverton, WY will be at 2pm on Saturday November 24th at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Matt White officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 1pm to 2pm at the Church.
Evelyn Groathouse went to be with Jesus on November 16, 2018.
Evelyn was born on December 20, 1924 in Dallas, South Dakota to Albert and Mary Schamber.
On December 8, 1941, Evelyn married Perle Groathouse in Riverton. During the early years of their marriage they worked on farms around the Pavillion area. When their children were in school, Evelyn went to work for the Pavillion School District as a cook. She made fresh bread every day for 30 years. After she and Perle retired they moved to Riverton.
Evelyn loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She enjoyed canning her garden vegetables and making jelly and jams. She was also very talented at needlepoint and made many beautiful things. She earned numerous awards for sewing and baking at the Fremont County Fair.
She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed all the pastors who visited the nursing home to deliver a sermon on Sundays, and she especially enjoyed singing the hymns with her friends.
Among her survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ron Flack of Fort Collins, CO, daughters-in-law, Joyce Groathouse of Cody, WY, and Judy Groathouse of Riverton, WY and dear family friend, Cathy Luoma of Riverton, WY. Additionally, she is survived by nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Evelyn was preceded in death by the love of her life and best friend, Perle (Bill) Groathouse, her two loving sons Ron Groathouse and Richard (Dick) Groathouse, her parents, her twin sister and four brothers.
