Ella May Byrne of Riverton died on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. She was 83. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton. Larry Metz will officiate. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, preceding the service. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery in Grand Junction, Colo. Ella May Robertson was born in Ogden, Utah, on May 20, 1925, the daughter of Andrew Young Robertson and Lillian (Beach) Robertson. She married Allen F. Byrne on July 11, 1953, in Ogden. Mrs. Byrne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints faith. The family ranched at Piedmont, Wyo., from 1953 to 1958, ran the Top Rail Motel in Cheyenne from 1958 to 1962, lived in Powder Wash, Colo., from 1962 to 1967. Mrs. Byrne worked for Dixon, Inc. in Grand Junction, Colo., 1967-73; operated Table Rock (Wyo.) Service, 1973-1981, and, after her husband's death, Mrs. Byrne moved to Sandy, Utah. She returned to Wyoming in 1991 and made her home in Riverton. Her family said Mrs. Byrne enjoyed her family, including children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a newly-arrived great-great granddaughter. They said she loved to travel, read, and collect Betty Boop items. For several years, Mrs. Byrne served as a Foster Grandparent at Jefferson Elementary School in Riverton. Her family said it was a source of joy for her when she was out in the community and children greeted her as "Grandma B." Survivors include her children, Virginia Cooper and her husband Kent of Rock Springs, Glenn Byrne and wife Randi of Colorado, John Byrne of Casper, Alice Metz and husband Larry of Farson, and Mary Lou Huffstetler and husband Bruce of Riverton; eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; brother, Ronald Robertson and wife Lynn, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; her parents; two sisters; four brothers; granddaughter, Tracy Byrne, and good friend Bonnie Rodgers. Memorials may be made to the Wyoming Medical Center Foundation, the Riverton Senior Center, or the American Diabetes Association, in care of the Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main, Riverton, WY 82501.
