LaVenda McMurtrey, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Idaho Falls Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 83 years old.
Idaho funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 19, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue in Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at Wood’s.
Local funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton.
Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton,
LaVenda Fox was born on Nov. 1, 1925 in a cabin by the old Swan Valley bridge; Swan Valley, Idaho, to David and Marietta Fox. She lived her life in the states of Idaho, California, Montana, and Wyoming. She attended school in the Idaho Falls area. She resided in the Idaho Falls, Idaho area and Shoshoni for a number of years.
She married Robert Thomas Nelson. They were later divorced. She married Robert Max McMurtrey. They were later divorced.
She was a member of the V.F. W., D.A.V., and Eagle's Ladies' Auxiliaries. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Her family said she loved reading, needlepoint, teaching children how to do things, and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include son, Robert Alan Nelson of Shelley, Idaho, and Michael Greg McMurtrey of Evanston; daughter, Betty Jean McMurtrey Dodds, of Mtn. Home, Idaho; brothers, Dean Marvin Fox of Phoenix, Ariz., and Charles Vernon Fox of Mtn. Home; a sister, LaVeda Fann of Idaho Falls; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughters, Linda Joyce Nelson Viers, Teri Lynn McMurtrey Fridline, Kathy McMurtrey Schambers; brother, Derl David Fox, and sister, Vermont Fistoleria.
