Funeral services for Janet M. "Pinky" Thacker of Riverton will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton. Pastor Scott McFarland will officiate. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton. A dinner will follow at the LDS Church in Riverton. There will be a viewing from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Davis Funeral Home. Mrs. Thacker passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with Melanoma Skin Cancer on Thursday afternoon, June 7, 2007, at the Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper. She was 61 years old. Janet Marie Miller was born on Aug. 16, 1945, in Heber City, Utah, the daughter of Ray Moroni Miller and Gladys Marie (Smith) Miller. She grew up in Heber City and was graduated from high school there. Three months later, she married Ned Thacker on Aug. 23, 1963, in Salt Lake City, Utah. A year later, the first of their four daughters was born. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family moved to Riverton from Heber City in January of 1974. Mrs. Thacker worked as a teachers' aide for School District 25 for 30-1/2 years. Her family said she truly loved working with the elementary school children. She retired in December 2005. Her family said Mrs. Thacker had a passion for collecting and making porcelain dolls. She had numerous other collections which, they said, brought her much joy. She was also a talented seamstress, a talent she passed on to all of her daughters. The family said she also loved gardening and flowers, always cultivating beautiful flowers. They said she had a special place in her heart for all creatures, big and small. In her younger days, Mrs. Thacker mastered the art of belly dancing, and participated with her friend Barb Hency. She also enjoyed camping and cherished any day that she could spend fishing and water skiing. Survivors include her husband, Ned Ellis Thacker; daughters, Stephanie Bryan and husband Jim of Spearfish, S.D., Gina Flanagan and husband Don of Riverton, Shelly Coventry and husband Bryan of Casper, and Pam Peterson and husband Chris of Lander; 10 grandchildren, Rashell, Amber, Kayla, and Kendra, who are Stephanie's children, Austin and Kaycee, who are Gina's children, Madison and Sage, who are Shelly's children, and Ellis and Zoe who are Pam's children; one great grandchild, Maesie, who is Amber's child; her mother, Gladys Miller of Salt Lake City; brothers, Mickey Miller and wife Sheri of Tooele, Utah, and Ray Miller of Provo, Utah; sisters, Pauline Sessions and Ben of Redman, Wash, Joan Tadd of Salt Lake City, and Alene Hardman of Salt Lake; brothers-in-law, Steve Thacker and wife Diane of Salt Lake City, and Lavar Thacker and wife Ilene of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Moroni Miller. Memorials may be made to the Little Wind River Hospice of Fremont County or the Central Wyoming Hospice care of Davis Funeral Home.
