Leland “Lee” Backer, 68, of Riverton, Wyoming passed away at his home on Thursday, January 25,2024.  Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

 

Leland Richard Backer was born on November 16, 1955 in Santa Monica, California to Richard Gust and Sharon Lee (Painter) Backer. He grew up in Reseda, California.

 

Lee joined the U.S. Army on December 12, 1973 in Los Angels, California and served in the 58th Civil Engineer Company, 11th Calvary.  He was honorably discharged on November 29, 1976 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

 

After his discharge, he moved to Riverton, Wyoming in 1977. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for over thirty years and belonged to International Union Operating Engineers Local #800. Lee also worked for Terminix and finished his career with MEI in Lysite, Wyoming.

 

Lee met the love of his life, Kelly Hegg, in 1981. They were married on July 31, 1982 and made Riverton their home.

 

As a sportsman, Lee enjoyed target shooting, visiting gun shows and reloading ammunition. He was at the happiest spending time with his wife and his grandson.

 

He is survived by his wife of over forty-one years, Kelly Backer; sons, Robert (Becky) Backer and Richard (Roxann) Backer, their children, Marek, Crosby, and Baillie; sister, Leslie (Mike) Perry; and ex daughter-in-law, Lindsey Backer and grandson, Mason.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Sharon Backer; grandparents, Wilburn and Dorothy Painter; brother, Bill Backer; niece, Kylee and nephew, Jon.
