June Ann Brown, 77, of St. Stephens, Wyoming passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Sage West Hospital-Riverton. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Great Plains Hall with wake to follow at 32 Great Plains Loop. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 14, 2024, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at Arapaho Catholic Cemetery.

 

June Ann Brown was born in Riverton, Wyoming on June 14, 1946 to Thomas Brown WallowingBull Sr. and Martha Viola (C’Bearing) Brown. June’s Native American name was Niicii Nisei, meaning River Woman. She attended the Chilocco Boarding School in Oklahoma. During her life she lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Casper, Wyoming, and Los Angeles, California before returning to the Wind River Reservation.

 

June was baptized into the Catholic faith and also participated in the Traditional Ceremonies.

 

June worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Arapaho Immersion Teacher, and helped raise her grand children and great grandchildren.

 

June really enjoyed her grandchildren, watching Law & Order, CSI, playing Bingo, and going to the casino. She loved the mountains, fishing, being in the mountains, family dinners, grand kids, sporting events, and especially time with family and friends.

 

She is survived by her sons, Leland H. Black, Lemuel B. Black, Jr. and Garrett T. Brown; daughters, Letitia D. Black, Eileen T. Brown, and Sonia V. Black-Friday; brother, John P. Brown, sisters, Thersia M. Jones, Sadie Bell, and Emma Moss; and grandchildren, Cooxooeii Black, Niieihii Black, Heeyei Niitou Monroe-Black,Heeyei Dodge, Huhenii Hisei Dodge,` Brandon L. Williams, N. Stacie Williams, Shanel T. Williams, Kristen M. Williams, Natasha K. Friday, Todd Bowekaty, Ava Dodge, Kayson Groesbeck, and Amani Knight; numerous grand children and great grandchildren.

 

The families of WallowingBull, Brown, C’Bearing, Harris, White, Harlan, Black, C’Hair, Friday, Tidzump. Norse, and Headley. The family ask forgiveness if they missed anyone at their time of sorrow.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Brown WallowingBull and Martha Viola C’Bearing-Brown; siblings, Sylvia Brown Dewey, Wilber T. Brown, Sr., Florence V. Brown-C’Bearing, Arlene Vivian Brown-Goggles, Rosemary Brown Harlan-Tidzump, Rachael Agnes Brown-Moss, Donald R. Brown-WallowingBull, Ida Rose Brown,  Donald R. Brown-WallowingBull, and Wilbur Brown; Arlene V. Goggles, Rachel A. Brown, Florence Bearing, Ida Rose Brown, Irene E. Harris, and Sylvia Dewey.
