Gladys June Miller-Sajwaj passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on April 22, 2017 at Westward Heights Care in Lander, Wyoming, due to age related health issues. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2017 at Davis Funeral Home with Echo Klaproth officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the Friday-Truan Detachment #683 Marine Corp League & Veterans.

Gladys June Goff was born June 28, 1922 in Akron, Ohio to Ersel David Goff and Ora Lucinda Barker-Goff. She grew up with five siblings, and spent much of her childhood competing in sports. She graduated from high school in Akron, Ohio. Gladys received her teaching degree in West Virginia. Gladys served in the United States Navy as Seaman first class (AM) WAVES from March 12, 1943 and received her Honorable discharge on September 8, 1944. Gladys participated in the Wyoming Proud Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on September 22, 2009.

Gladys was a teacher by profession for 38 years. She taught in Copley Elementary in Akron, Ohio, Willard Elementary in Casper, Wyoming and at Arapahoe School in Fremont County until her retirement.

She married Perry Urias Miller on July 4, 1940, and a son Kenneth David Miller was born to this union. Gladys and Perry enjoyed their country life, hunting, fishing and traveling, but most of all their family. Gladys later married Joseph George Sajwaj on May 1, 1990. Gladys and George enjoyed their friends, spending time with both of their families, Senior Olympics, Riverton Senior Center and traveling.

Gladys is survived by her son, Kenneth David Miller; grandson, Shane Perry Miller; great grandson, Devon Dean Miller; brother, Donald James Goff and his wife, Pat; daughter-in-law, Margaret Jackie Miller. Gladys is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sajwaj was preceded in death by her mother and father; her first husband, Perry U. Miller; her second husband, Joseph George Sajwaj; sisters, Mabel Shellhorn and her husband, Everett, Audrey Heaton and her husband, Gordon; brothers, David Goff and his wife, Vivian, William “Bill” Goff and his wife, Carol; and a nephew.

Gladys was active in the Wyoming Senior Olympics, Huntsman Senior Olympic Games in Utah and World Senior Games held in Australia. Gladys was a “Gold Medal Lady” achiever in many different fields of the Senior Olympics.

Mrs. Sajwaj was very active in fraternal, civic, community and charitable organizations throughout her lifetime. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, member of the American Legion Post #61, member of the Riverton United Methodist Church, member of the Riverton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, member of the Arapahoe Homemakers, past board member of Fremont County School District #38, past board member of Community Entry Services, served as an election judge for both Riverton and Arapahoe voting precincts, Volunteered for Help for Health Hospice, Riverton Relay for Life, and volunteered to water plants and make cookies for the Riverton VA Clinic.

Charitable contributions in memory of Gladys may be made through the Davis Funeral Home, 2203 W. Main Street, Riverton, WY 82501 in the name of the organizations listed above.

The family of Gladys Miller-Sajwaj wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Help for Health Hospice, Westward Heights Care Center, Riverton VA Clinic, Frontier Home Health, Sage West Hospital and Guardian Life Staff that contributed to her health care needs. Riverton Senior Center, Wyoming Department of Education, organizations and friends who visited, sent cards and flowers. All of you provided cherished work toward the comfort care and peaceful passing of an extraordinary lady whom we as a family loved deeply.
