James G. Manasco of Riverton died at Wind River Healthcare in Riverton on Sunday evening, Nov. 13, 2011, at the age of 91. Cremation has taken place and memorial services are at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20, at Wind River Healthcare with family and friends officiating. Military honors will be presented. James Garfield Manasco was born in Aldridge, Alabama, on March 16, 1920, the son of James Monroe Manasco and Rosa Mae (Bonner) Manasco. He served with the U.S. Navy in the North Atlantic during World War II. He married Mildred Christine Braden on April 9, 1938 in Jasper, Alabama. Mr. Manasco was a dynamite specialist in the mining industry. He worked in the Union Pacific coal mines until 1952, when he moved to Rock Springs, working in the UP coal mines until 1954. In 1954 and 1955, he worked as a ranch hand at the Davidson Ranch out of Riverton, then moved to Indiana in 1955. In 1968, he returned to Riverton and worked for Lucky Mc until his retirement. Mr. Manasco was of the Baptist faith. His family said he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, could fix anything, and enjoyed weaving and other crafts. Survivors include his son, Donald Manasco of Riverton; daughters, Peggy Joyce Murray of Covington, Ind., Karen Kehl and her husband Jeff of Riverton, and Carolyn Manasco-Faith of Casper; 30 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine in September of 2003; two sons, Jim Edward and William Kenneth; a son-in-law, Larry Faith; two brothers, and two sisters.
