Boyd D. Sebade of Lander died at Westward Heights Care Center in Lander on Saturday morning, Nov. 26, 2011. He was 88.
Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held.
Boyd Delos Sebade was born in Wall, S.D., on Monday, July 30, 1923, the son of Herman and Eva (Huddleston) Sebade.
He grew up in Wall, S.D. and graduated high school. He was given a scholarship to play football and basketball at Huron, S.D. playing one year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Sebade served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, aboard the Alexander Dallas Destroyer.
Following military services, he was a rural route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in New Jersey and then in Rapid City, S.D. for 30 years.
He married Helen Margaret Sproha on July 16, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wharton, N.J.
He had lived in Lander for 31 years, moving there from Rapid City, S.D., where he had lived for some 30 years. Prior to that he had lived in Wall, S.D. and Wharton, N.J.
Mr. Sebade was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Elks Lodge.
His family said he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, grandchildren, and other friends.
Mr. Sebade also worked as a carpenter, building houses in Lander and Rapid City.
Survivors include a son, Michael Sebade and his wife Leann of Lander; a daughter, Susan Downham and her husband Jim of Lander; a daughter-in-law, Marla Sebade of Rapid City, S.D.; 10 grandchildren, Christa Drab and her husband Steve, Chad Sebade and his wife Brook, Matthew Sebade, Brian Sebade and wife Marie, Andrew Downham and his wife Ashlee, Kathryn Downham, Amy Schwanz and her husband Mark, and Christopher Downham; four great grandchildren, Hailey Drab, Christian Drab, Brynn Schwanz, and Kyra Schwanz; a brother-in-law, Bob Sproha of Mountain Lake, N.J.; brother-in-law, Emery Sabo of Rapid City; sister, Myrnaloy Smith and husband Guy of Rapid City; numerous nieces and nephews in Rapid City.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen; a son, Dave Sebade, his parents, Herman and Eva and a sister, Arla Sabo.
