Karen A. Brookins died at her home in Lander on Monday evening, Dec. 19, 2011, at the age of 67.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday December 28th, at 3PM at the Hudson Church.
Karen Ann Bear was born in Spearfish, S.D., on Oct. 13, 1944, the daughter of Sherman Wesley Bear and Laura Ellen (Cohee) Bear. She grew up in the Moorcroft area where she attended elementary school and was graduated from Upton High School.
She moved to Lander from Newcastle in 1971.
Ms. Brookins worked at the Wyoming State Training School in Lander, as a seamstress for American Laundry, and as a cook at Westward Heights Care Center.
She was baptized through the Hudson Bible Church where she participated in Bible studies.
Her family said she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, general sewing, counted cross stitch, crafts, fishing, camping, picnicking while raising her family, and used to help Lonnie Mantle and family round-up the horses.
Survivors include her son, Ralph "Sonny" Vargas of Lander; daughters, Wendy J Vargas Hooper and her husband Edward Hooper III, and Denise Ann Masters, all of Lander; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and two on the way; two sisters, Shirley Ziemer, and Wilma Williams, of Sundance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Tom Sherman Vargas, and a brother, Lee Bear of Fruitdale, S.D.'
