Mary I. Morris, 68, of Riverton died at the Riverton Memorial Hospital on Saturday, June 30, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Davis Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Smith will officiate. There will be a viewing on Thursday morning before the services starting at 8:30am.
Mary Irene Jenkins was born on February 14, 1944 in Red Cloud, Nebraska to Byron Wayne Jenkins and Genevieve Mary Fountain. She was a 1962 graduate of Briggsdale, Colorado High School.
Mary married Bill Ora Snyder on December 23, 1963 in Greeley, Colorado. Together they had two children, Michael and Renee. They divorced after 29 years. She then married Larry James Morris on June 20, 1992 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska; he preceded her in death on January 13, 2002.
Mary was of the Baptist faith.
She started her working career at the age of 10, when she was the janitor at the Briggsdale Baptist Church. She had many careers including driving school bus, a Mountain Bell operator, a secretary for the mining industry in Gas Hills, an executive secretary, executive housekeeper for Holiday Inn, worked for Holly Sugar, and worked at both Riverton Home Care and Little Wind Hospice.
She was also very active in volunteer work, she was in the Military Officers Wives’ Club, Cookie Ladies in which she made goods and visited veterans in the hospital, made receiving blankets for Abba’s House, was on bowling leagues, a den mother for Brownies, a Red Cross volunteer, and was involved with the DYA, youth organization thru military for sports.
She loved to cook, bake, make rugs, volunteer, help those in need with shelter and commodities, taking care of family and friends through terminal illness, and most of all loved her garden and teaching her family gardening and canning.
She is survived by her son, Michael and his wife Sheila of Riverton; her daughter, Renee Snyder of Greybull; grandchildren, Grace, Christopher, Taylor and Noah Snyder all of Riverton; brother, Byron Jenkins of Greeley, CO ; sister, Alice McCarty and husband David of Morgan, TX; aunt, Dollie Lash, CA; uncle Jack Fountain and wife Penny of Red Cloud, NE; sister-in-law, Karen Koenig of Gering, NE; sister of heart, Linda Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Lawrence “L.C.” Carter, husband Larry Morris, mother-in-law, Arlene Morris, and grandparents, Ava and Ray Fountain and Etla and Lloyd Fewell, Brother, Richard Ivie.
