Merle “Mama D” Durgin, 76, of St. Stephens, died on Monday, August 27, 2012, at the Help for Health Hospice Home in Riverton.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Stephens Catholic Church. A rosary will be held on Friday, August 31, 2012, at 7:00 pm, at daughter, Carla Jaramillo’s home at #6 Riverton Oilfield Road. Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.

Merle Mae Brown was born on May 23, 1936 in Ft. Washakie to Newton Aaron and Ellen Brown. She grew up and lived on the Wind River Reservation where she was a homemaker.

Her family said that she loved her dogs, playing cards, the casino, cruising with Ruby and Marley, and listing to country music.

She was of the Catholic faith.

She is survived by sons, Robert Durgin, Thomas Durgin, Charles Durgin, Loren Durgin, Shane Durgin, Allan Mike Durgin, and Francis Acebo; daughters, Carleta Durgin Jaramillo, Shirley Durgin Lango, and Eurdena Acebo; brothers, Charles Manderson, Martin Montoya, Ronnie Montoya, Tino Montoya, Peter Garcia, Glenn Smith, and Richard Oldman; sisters, Alfreda Smith, Barbara Smith Perea, Geraldine Smith Monroe, Phyllis Smith and Juanita Garcia; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Newton Aaron, Ellen Rose Garcia, Hiram Ax Brown, and Amy Brown; brothers, Francis Brown, and Johnny Brown; sisters, Madeline Montoya and Catherine Friday; first husband, Edward Durgin; second husband, Willie East; son, Patrick Durgin; daughters, Maria Durgin and Rebecca Durgin; grandsons, Mark Jaramillo, Shawn Durgin, and Chilio C’Bearing.
