Darwin Niedo 64, died October 18, 2012 in his home in Crowheart
Services to be held at Crowheart, Big Wind Hall on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 and Rosary, Tuesday, October 23rd at 6:00 pm
Mr. Niedo was born on May 23, 1948 to Ray Niedo and Jane Pearle Niedo in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Mr. Darwin D. Niedo, nickname "Waffo" a member of the Comanche tribe, was remembered by his family and friends as witty man with a colorful personality and many talents.
He received his Theology Degree from the Nazarene Indian Bible College.
An eloquent orator, singer, and guitarist, Mr. Niedo preached and played gospel music at churches on the Wind River Indian Reservation and elsewhere.
At the time of his death, he was a pastor at the Crowheart Community Church.
Throughout much of his life, Mr. Niedo's guitar accompanied him wherever he went and he often performed upon request, including songs he had written himself.
A veteran, Mr. Niedo served in the Vietnam War. He never forgot those with whom he served and regularly represented veterans at functions held locally as well as throughout the United States. He was a member of the American Legion, Richard Pogue Post 81 and served as a Tribal Veterans Representative.
Mr. Niedo was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hiking in the Wind River Mountains.
Mr. Niedo spent splitting his life between Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Wyoming, but it was his love of the Wind River Mountains and Valley that ultimately drew him to call Fort Washakie and, later Crowheart, his home.
Mr. Niedo was preceded in death by his grandparents: Joe Moafpowat Niedo, Sr. and Maggie Wayahyetchy Niedo, mother- Jane Peale Niedo, father-Ray Niedo, Willis Niedo, Cheryl G. Hill, and Calvin Pingree.
He is survived by Aunt Rosella Tehah, Joseph Niedo, Glenda Havlik, Carolyn Nalepinski of Wisconsin, Vivian Hale, Nelda Niedo, Eleanor McDaniels, Gary Niedo of Oklahoma, Alicia Cook, Kay Pingree, Rebecca Pingree, Warren Niedo, Brian Peahrora, Zane Niedo, Whitman Niedo, stepmother- Rosa L. Niedo of Fort Washakie Wyoming and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.
