Iris McKinney Carter, 82, of Shoshoni, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, after a short battle with lung cancer. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Iris McKinney was born on June 6, 1932 in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania to Archie and Belle Irene (George) McKinney. She was one of four children and was raised in Pennsylvania. After graduating high school she lived in Pennsylvania for a time before starting her journey across country.
She lived in Connecticut, California, Colorado and Hawaii before settling in Shoshoni, WY to be close to her mother and sister.
While in Colorado she worked for the Social Security Office and retired there before moving to Shoshoni. After moving she worked at the Department of Family Services office in Riverton and weekends at the VFW in Shoshoni. She “retired” again in 1994 from DFS but continued to work at the VFW. She enjoyed the people and visiting with everyone.
She is survived by her son, Robert of Lead South Dakota and his wife, Erika and her granddaughters, Danye and Caycee.
She was preceded in death by her father, Archie McKinney; her mother, Bella McKinney Heasley; her stepfather, Ralph Heasley; her sisters, June and Betty; and her brother, Bill.
