Cherie Fortner, 54, of Riverton, was called to heaven on Sunday, December 21, 2014. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015, at 10:00 am at Davis Funeral Home.
Cherie Lynn Rogers was born on November 2, 1960 in Riverton, WY to Leo E. and Alice G. (Hillen) Rogers. She graduated from Riverton High School with the class of 1979. In 1996, she married the love of her life and other half, Benjamin Charles Fortner. They were able to enjoy 18 years together.
Cherie loved and was very proud of her family. Her two sons, Henri and Michael DeClercq were the pride and joy of her life. Also, as only a grandma could, she loved spoiling and spending time with her grandchildren whenever she had an opportunity.
Cherie had a passion for caring for the living things around her. She loved to garden and had a remarkably green thumb. She always had plants and flowers inside and out. Those who knew Cherie also knew that she couldn’t turn away a critter that needed a loving home. Cherie would take in any four-legged fuzzy friend and provide the love and nurturing that they need.
Cherie was also very crafty and creative. She enjoyed making jewelry, embroidering, needlepoint, and sewing. She attended a group at Rock Solid making jewelry as well as working with alternative healing. She looked forward to meeting with her friends and creating new designs and ideas.
She is survived by her husband, Benjamin Fortner of Riverton; her sons, Henri and Sarah DeClerq of Riverton and Michael and Heather DeClercq of Lawton, OK; her mother, Alice Rogers of Riverton; her mother in law, Esther Fortner of Lasalle, CO; and her grandchildren, Samantha-Jane, Jared, Destiny, Cadenze, and Faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leo Rogers; her brother, James Bruce Rogers; her grandmother, Alice Buynie; her grandfather, John H. Hillen; her step grandfather, Frank Buynie; and her father in law, Frank Fortner.
