Garoll “Gary” Lund, 79, of Kinnear, died on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, MT. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at 10:00 am at Sunnyside Church of the Nazarene in Kinnear.
Garoll Dee Lund was born on August 1, 1935 in Ansley, NE to Oscar Edward and Naomi Laura (Samp) Lund. He was one of four children. The family moved to Wyoming in 1941 and he attended schools in Morton. He graduated from Morton High School with the class of 1953. He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northwest Nazarene College in 1961. He went on to earn his Masters Degree from Leslie University.
On June 8, 1959 in St. Paul, MN, he married his wife of 55 years, Marilyn Marie Woodbeck. They made their home in Kinnear and raised four children.
He was with School District #6 of Pavillion for 36 years. In that time he taught and became the Athletic Director. You could always find him at all of the athletic activities supporting the youth and being an important role model. After “retiring” he substituted for another 10 years for the Riverton and Wyoming Indian School Districts.
He was very involved with his church, Sunnyside Church of the Nazarene in Kinnear. He was a Sunday School teacher, on the Board of Trustees, held numerous District Offices, and was on the District Advisory Board for Montana and Wyoming. He sang both in church and with the church choir, and was the Song Leader for several years. He was always thinking of others and became known as the “Dollar Grandpa” for giving a dollar to every child in church on their birthday. His family said that “church was the center of his life” and it showed in how he lived his life.
When he was growing up he loved having fast cars. He loved to water ski, travel, playing cards with family and friend, and loved being around family at get togethers.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of the family home in Kinnear; his sons, Vance E. Lund and Verlin C. Lund both of Kinnear; his daughters, Vonni R. Bray and her husband, Ken of Laurel. MT and Vicki J. Albitre and her husband, Randy of Bakersfield, CA; his grandchildren, Amber, Leisha, RaeVonn, Devon, Dustee and Parker; his great grandchildren, Adin and Sofie; his brother, Gayle Lund and his wife, Pat of Poulsbo, WA and his sisters, Allene Miller and her husband, Howard of Nampa, ID and Marva Yeend and her husband, Dave of Walla Walla, WA.
