Valoy Maddock

May 14, 1945 - Jan 16, 2015
Valoy Maddock, a resident of Fremont County for 53 years, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015 at her home following a nine year battle with cancer. She was 69 years old. A funeral service is scheduled for Valoy on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the LDS Church at 430 Elizabeth Drive in Riverton, Wyoming, starting at 11:00 am. She will be buried the following day at Logan Cemetery in Logan, Utah at 1:00 p.m. Valoy Maddock was born to Hyrum and Ada Maughan on May 14, 1945 in Logan, Utah. Valoy grew up in North Logan, Utah on the family farm where she enjoyed riding horses bareback and playing in the fruit orchards with her friends. At age 16, she and her family moved to Riverton, Wyoming. While attending Riverton High School, she met James Maddock; after she graduated from high school, she married James on June 4, 1963. James and Valoy were sealed together in the LDS Logan Temple in Logan, Utah on June 5, 1963. Valoy had five boys, one of which was awesome (you take your pick!). Seriously, Valoy loved all her boys and really enjoyed sharing their experiences throughout grade school through high school. She enjoyed attending their sporting events and other activities; whatever and wherever the activities were, she was there yelling her support. When her boys graduated and had families of their own, she carried that passion to following her grandchildren to their school activities as well. At times, when the grandchildren (cousins) were on opposing teams from different schools, she would declare that she was cheering for each grandchild, and not taking a team’s side. In her later years, Valoy enjoyed her job as a parts runner for MEI which allowed her to visit many community businesses, making many great friends along the way. When she retired, one of the things she missed the most was opportunities to see and visit with these many friends. Valoy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all her life. Even while battling her illness, she made every effort to attend church services and to help others in any way possible. As her health and mobility diminished, she really appreciated the outpouring of love of the many people who went out of their way to assist her. Valoy Maddock is survived by her boys Duane and wife Cindy, Douglas and wife Stacey, Donald, David and wife Jamie, and Daniel; her 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; her siblings Ron & Jeanette Maughan and Suzie & Chris Rigsby; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband James Maddock; her parents Hyrum and Ada Maughan; her brother Howard Maughan; and a few nephews.
