Yngve Hagstrom, 91, of Riverton, died at the home of his son on Sunday, January 18, 2015. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015, at Davis Funeral Home at 10:00 am.
Ygnve Erik Hagstrom was born on September 25, 1923 in Sunne Sweden to Joel Helmer and Signe (Andersson) Hagstrom. In 1930 when he was only seven years old, he traveled with his family by ship from Sweden to the United States. The family lived in Dubois where he and his father worked in the Tie Camp at the Dunior. He later moved down to Riverton where he made his home until his passing.
On March 19, 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1945 in Fort Logan, CO.
On October 12, 1946 he married Julia M. Hammond. They were married for 38 years before her passing in 1984. Together they had two children, Bruce and Trudy. After Julia’s death, he married Regina Grabowski on February 14, 1987; she also preceded him in death.
He was masonry by trade and worked as a contractor all over the area. He spent nine years as the Maintenance Supervisor for School District 25 before he retired.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served with the Riverton Fire Department for 22 years before retiring.
His family said that he an avid hunter, fisherman, and rock hunter. He loved being in the outdoors and went often.
He is survived by his son, Bruce Hagstrom and his wife, Carolynn of Riverton; his daughter, Trudy Kumpe and her husband, Peter of Little Rock, AR; his sister, Vendla Henthorne and her husband Tad of Cody; his grandchildren, Erik Snyder and Cara Elias; and his great grandchildren, Jonathan, Celestine, Darious, and Brody.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Signe Hagstrom; his brothers, David Hagstrom and Carl Hagstrom; his sister, Elsie Hagstrom; his first wife, Julia Hammond-Hagstrom; and his second wife, Regina Hagstrom.
