Daniel “Dan” Paul Wilkinson, 73, of Riverton, died at his home on Wednesday, April 01, 2015. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015, at 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church. Pastor Robin Stupka will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Daniel Paul Wilkinson was born on March 31, 1942 in Valentine, NE to Benjamin Kenneth and Helen Louise (Simon) Wilkinson. He was one of five children. When he was nine years old, the family moved to a homestead north of Riverton. He attended schools in Shoshoni graduating with the class of 1960. He then moved to Laramie where he attended the University of Wyoming from 1960 to 1965 earning his Bachelors of Arts in Education. He moved back to Riverton in 1966 and where he lived until his passing.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
On September 26, 1964 he married his wife of 50 years, Donna Kay Eggers, in Riverton at the First Baptist Church. They raised two children together, one boy and one girl.
He was a middle school teacher in Riverton from 1966 to 1996. After leaving the school district he worked for Spain’s Sprinklers until his retirement. He started working in Alaska in the summer of 1960 for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. He was there for two summers before he went to work at a salmon cannery on Kodiak Island until he “retired” in 1972.
He was a member of the BPOE Elks in Riverton.
His family said he loved outdoor activities, fishing, hunting and backpacking. He also tied his own fly’s for fishing and enjoyed it greatly.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Riverton; his son, Thomas (Tina) Wilkinson of Lander; his brothers, Wesley (Jane) Wilkinson of Columbia Falls, MT and Kenneth Wilkinson of Seattle, WA; his sisters, Constance (Kyra) Wilkinson of Seattle, WA and Holly (Jim) Hoff of Wasilla, AK; and his two grandchildren, Emma and Elise. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Helen Wilkinson and his daughter, Kimberly Wilkinson.
