Lillian “Lilly” Owen, 89, of Riverton, died on Thursday, May 21, 2015, in Jackson, MS. A viewing will be held the morning of the service from 9:00 am until the service begins. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015, at 10:00 am at Davis Funeral Home. Reverend Mark Rader will officiate. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
Lillian Betsy Hubenka was born on June 12, 1925 in Verdal, NE to Edward C. and Albina (Janecek) Hubenka. She was one of twelve children raised on a farm in Nebraska. She graduated high school in Nebraska.
She was of the Methodist faith.
On March 25, 1947 she married Robert Clyde Owen in Seneca, Kansas. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Riverton where they raised their two children and opened a business. They were married for 57 years before Robert passed in 2004. Lilly remained in Riverton.
During World War II she worked at making ammunition and was a “Rosie the Riveter” helping on the ships. After the war she worked for White Stag Sewing Machines and in an apple orchard. After her children were born she was a working mother being the bookkeeper and partner in the family auto business.
She enjoyed sewing, canning, and taking care of her garden. She belonged to the local sewing club.
Jackson, MS; her sister, Vi Kenyon; and her two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Albina Hubenka; her husband, Robert Owen; her brothers, Elhart, John, Ernest, Ed, Ben, Frank and Joe Hubenka; and her sisters, Annie Hubenka, Mildred Tomsic, and Marylou Tomsic.
