She passed away in the early morning hours of July 13, 2015 at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Care Center in Thermopolis, Wyoming.
Ruth was born December 23, 1920 in Grand Junction, Colorado, daughter of William John and Ora Elsie (Yarger) Alexander.
Ruth was raised on the family’s cattle ranch near Cora, Wyoming, attending a one room school through the 8th grade. She then boarded in Pinedale to complete High School.
After brief employment as a secretary, she married Charles W. Bryant, June 17, 1941 in Jackson, Wyoming. The couple spent the war years in California and Kansas before moving to Riverton in the spring of 1946. After the war, Charles obtained employment as a Civil Engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation, helping to develop the Riverton Project.
The young couple purchased a small farm on Riverview Road next to the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Needing more acreage for their expanding livestock operation, they moved north of Riverton in 1959. Ruth continued to live there until last fall.
Ruth was actively engaged in raising registered Black Angus Cattle from 1950 until 2009. She and Charles had many cows recognized by the American Angus Association as “Pathfinder” cows. Ruth also raised Arabian horses for many years. In addition to raising livestock, she also farmed to raise feed for their stock.
Ruth was honored as Agriculture Woman of the Year in the 1960’s and Ranch Woman of the Year in the 1980’s. She was a member of the Do & Enjoy Extension Club, Cow Belles (Cattlewomen), and Rebekah Lodge, earning their Decoration of Chivalry.
In addition to raising cattle and horses, Ruth enjoyed tending her flowers. Special to her were her dog, Lucky and cat, Tiger and nice collectables.
Survivors include her son, Charles Stanley (Judy) Bryant of Riverton; daughters, Sharon Ruth Bryant of Riverton and Peggy Lynn (Mark) Prine of Billings, Montana; grandchildren, Stan (Samantha) Morris, Ryan Bryant, Kristi (Daryne) Fegler and Rob (Kim) Bryant; and 8 great-grandchildren.
