Funeral services for Charles Richard Manderson, 77, will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at St. Stephens Catholic Church with Father Phil Wagner officiating. Interment will follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 26th, at St. Stephens Catholic Church with a wake to follow at Charles’ home, 989 Rendezvous Road.

Mr. Manderson died on October 22, 2015 at the Help for Health Hospice Home in Riverton, Wyoming surrounded by his family.

He was born February 15, 1938 in Fort Washakie, Wyoming son of Ora B. Manderson and Cora R. Lonebear.

Charlie Boy graduated from St. Stephens High School and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He then attended Central Wyoming College and took online extension courses with the University of Wyoming. Mr. Manderson worked as a Journeyman Electrician and also owned and operated Pine Tree Construction Company in Riverton.

On June 3, 1966, he married Barbara Jean Friday in Worland, Wyoming. During their early years together, the couple lived in Mountainhome, Idaho until 1968 when they moved to Riverton, where they remained.

He was very proud to be a direct decendant of Chief Lonebear. Mr. Manderson was a Sundancer and a Northern Arapaho Experience Story teller at the Casino. His family says that he was a resurrector of all vehicles, being a great mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the casino, attending family dinners and loved spending time with his grand and great grandchildren. When Charlie Boy was younger, he was known for playing basketball for St. Stephens and Arapaho Schools. He was an avid bowler and was in a bowling league. Charlie also was an announcer for the Arapaho Pow Wow. He was a member of the Eagles, VFW Arthur Antelope Brown Post 84 and was a member of the St. Stephens Catholic Church.

Survivors include his son, Vernon Manderson; daughters, Robin Manderson and her companion, Luis Vaquera, Karen Manderson, Betty Friday and Mary Dewey; brothers, Glenn Smith, Richard Smith, LaRon Montoya, Antonio Montoya, Martin Montoya, and Pedro Garcia; sisters, Alfreda Smith, Barbara A. Perea, Geraldine Monroe, Phyllis Smith, Juanita Garcia and Elizabeth Yellowbear; grandchildren, Heather Friday, Cheryl White Bull, Myron Friday, Michael Manderson, DeWayne Hereford, John Redman, Jr. Tom Elk Redman, Maria Luisa Vaquera, Thalia Y. Vaquera, Jade L. Vaquera and Luis “Papa” Vaquera, III; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Friday Logan, Shane Shone, Bayleigh Redman, Spencer Shone and Jayshawn Willow; Brown family, Lonebear family, Yellowbear family, Smith Family and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Manderson was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, adopted parents, birth parents, Newton Aaron and Ellen R. Brown, infant great grandson, Xavier James Friday; daughter, Rosanna Manderson; son, Charles J. Manderson; grandsons, Javin and Alvin “Shafter” Talksdifferent, Jr., Lee Addison; sisters, Mary E. Bear and Catherine Friday; half-brother, Delphine Claire; sister, Merle Durgin; brother, Richard “Poncho” Lonedog, Arvin Felter, Louis Perea, Alfred Spoonhunter, Stanley Spoonhunter, Howard Felter, Anthony Sittingeagle, uncle, Johnny Brown, Bonface Brown, grandma, Clina Willow, grandpa, Hiram Brown, grandma, Amy Brown, Vincent Brown, Andrew Brown, grandma, Isabelle Belle, grandma, Kenzie Brown, grandson, Waldo R. Sanchez, Teri l. Smith, Joe Montoya, Madeline Montoya and nephew, Kenny Friday.
