Ray E. Hinkle, 93, of Riverton passed away at his son’s home on Sunday, November 19, 2017. As were his wishes there will be no services.
Ray Edgar Hinkle was born on November 12, 1924 in Scottsbluff, NE to George Jacob and Merle (Harrison) Hinkle. When he was very young his family moved to Buckhorn Flats in Fremont County. They were one of the first families to homestead in the area.
He ran the family dairy farm for years before moving to Riverton. After moving into town, he started working as the foreman at Farmer’s Exchange until his retirement. Agriculture was always a major part of his life. After retirement he would spend time at Walmart setting by the door and being an “unofficial” greeter. Everyone, especially the children, loved to stop and visit and he enjoyed it so much.
He was a past member of the Riverton Elks Club.
His family was always first and especially his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his great great grandchildren. He never missed an event they were in, from sports to band and everything in between. Hunting and fishing was a family activity involving everyone. On Ray’s last antelope season hunting, he watched his great grandson shoot his first antelope and it was captured with a four generation photo, which he cherished. His last great great grandson was born premature in February 2017, and he made it his mission to check daily on how he was doing and when he came home they became great buddies. Another opportunity was captured with a five generation photo which his family now cherishes.
He is survived by his sons, Russell (Karen) Hinkle of Riverton, Eugene (Donna Farmer) Hinkle of Aurora, CO, and Earl (Sandra) Hinkle of Riverton; daughter, Margorie Hinkle of Bozeman, MT; sisters, Georgan (Virgil) Ellerbruch of Brookings, SD and Elsie Griffin of Spring Creek, NV; grandchildren, Vicki Hinkle, Riverton, WY, Jerry (Racquelle) Hinkle, Rock Springs, WY, Rob (Sheila) Hinkle, Riverton, WY, Angela (Doug) Swenson, Riverton, WY, Randolph Hinkle, Denver, CO, Jeffery (Stephanie) Hinkle, Arvada, CO, Steve Ruegge, Aurora, CO, Shelley (Chuck) Parkhurst, Aurora, CO, James Hinkle, Casper, WY, Adam (Tonya) Hinkle, Riverton, WY, Serena Nichols, Steamboat Springs, CO, Teresa Pope, Steamboat Springs, CO, and Illya Averette, Steamboat Springs, CO; 27 great grandchildren; and 22 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bertha Alice Portlock Hinkle; second wife, Elizabeth Lodema Brow Hinkle; and brothers, Robert Hinkle and wife, Doris and Bill Hinkle and wife Bea.
