John J. Goodman of Arapahoe died in El Reno, Okla., on Monday, June 30, 2008 at the age of 67.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church with Catholic clergy officiating. Interment will follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery at St. Stephen's.
There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Friday, July 4, at his home, 1613 17 Mile Road, Arapahoe, with a wake to follow.
John James Goodman was born in Fort Washakie on June 2, 1941, the son of William C'Bearing and Elizabeth Goodman. He attended school at St. Stephen's.
On June 14, 1962, he married Donna Ree Brown at St. Stephen's.
Mr. Goodman was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church, a cultural teacher, and had served on the Arapaho Business Council. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs' Forest Service for several years and as a bus driver for St. Stephen's.
An elder of the tribe, he had worked on economic development. He participated in all Arapaho tribal ceremonies.
His family said Mr. Goodman enjoyed spending time with his family and was a fan of basketball, football, and other activities in which his grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved. He also took pride in the appearance of his home, including the grass and trees, family said.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; sons, James Goodman, Darrell Goodman and his wife Kathy, Andre Goodman, Mitch Warren, Gabriel Warren; daughters, Rebecca Kuka and husband John, Brenda Goodman, Elizabeth Goodman, Arlene Goodman, Leslie Sixtoes, and Margaret C'Bearing; brothers, John Charles Dewey, Melvin Littleshield, John Bushyhead, Mervin Bushyhead, Joseph Bushyhead, Stanford Bushyhead, George Moss, Leonard Moss, and Rupert Goggles; sisters, Frances Dewey, Madeline Spoonhunter, and Margaret Ann Washington; grandchildren, Jolene Brown-Janis, Teresa Warren, Camille Goodman, Malorey Goodman, Tashina Goodman, Nicole Goodman, Margaret Goodman, Jamie Goodman, Mistie Duran, Travis Warren, Winn Goodman, Winter Hawk Goodman, Eddy Raigosa III, Lenny Raigosa, Teddy Raigosa, John Goodman, and James Goodman, Jr.; great grandchildren, Jacelyn Brown, Jaren Brown, Alessa Brown, Owen Janis, Jr., Joaquin Janis, Singing Water Warren, Carlos Goodman, Shaliaya Wolfname, Quelenna Chavez, Tavlion Goodman, Eddy Raigosa IV, and Kamryn Raigosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lloyd "Tater" Wallowingbull; great-great grandson, Darrell Joshua Hanway; siblings, Margaret C'Bearing, Arlene C'Bearing, Jimmy C'Bearing, James C'Bearing, and Linus C'Bearing.
