Gary R. "Auto" Clawson died at his rural Riverton home Saturday morning, July 12, 2008, at the age of 53.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton. A Viewing will be Wed. evening, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., July 16, 2008 at the funeral home. The Reverend O.G. Garcia of the First United Pentecostal Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
Gary Ray Clawson was born in Riverton on Feb. 8, 1955, the son of Harold and Viola (Gibson) Clawson.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1973 to 1976.
In 1977, he married Cheri Weller in Green River, having met her when she was 14 and he was 20. They later divorced.
He had worked in the oil fields for 30 years, having chosen his occupation at the age of 22, after moving to Green River. Mr. Clawson had worked offshore drilling from Santa Barbara, Calif., and for a vast number of the oil field companies in Wyoming.
He was of the Christian faith. His family said he was a dedicated worker who also loved to fish, camp, and travel.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Cheri Clawson of Riverton; sons, Gary Ray Clawson II and Steven Lee Clawson; five grandchildren; parents, Harold Clawson, and Viola Dominguez; a brother, Hershell Clawson of Owensboro, Kentucky; sister, Kathy Wheeler of Denver, Colo.; mother-in-law, Wanda Weller; sisters-in-law and caregivers, Robin Smith and Easter Lasley; many nieces and nephews, including Tabitha Kornder, Michael Cousineau, Sarah Cousineau, Brian Cousineau, and Larry Schaller; care giver, Char Lynn Heidikruger.
He was preceded in death by an infant grandson.
