Horace J. Big Medicine, Sr., 62 of Arapahoe passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019 in Riverton. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Monday, March 18, 2019, at Great Plains Hall with wake to follow. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Great Plains Hall with burial to follow at Yellow Calf Cemetery.
Horace Joseph Big Medicine was born on March 23, 1956 in Riverton, WY to Archie Big Medicine, Sr. and Agnes (Antelope) Big Medicine. He grew up on the Wind River Reservation and attended schools at St. Stephens, Wyoming Indian, and graduated from Worland High School.
In 1975 he joined the U.S. Army and served eight years before being discharged.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the tribe and also was a truck driver with North Allanta.
Horace enjoyed breaking horses, fishing, hunting, going to Pow-Wows and dancing.
He is survived by his children, Doug, Dustin, Horace, Benajah, Kristy, Irene, Heather, Ethan Fighting Bear, Dakota Irvin Fighting Bear, Leland Fighting Bear and Gracie; brothers, Archie Big Medicine, Jr., Franklin Antelope, Jerry Antelope, Wesley Antelope and Hiram Big Medicine; sisters Leslie Fournier, Mary Fighting Bear and Wilma Big Medicine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Connie Oldman and daughter, Isis Big Medicine.
