Pastor Robert “Bob” Oberheu, 92, of Riverton passed away on Monday morning, April 22, 2019, after a short stay at the Help for Health Hospice Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, April 26, 2019. The service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Garwood and Pastor Mark Mumme officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with military honors. There will be a reception at Trinity Lutheran Church afterwards.

Robert Carl Oberheu was the son of Pastor and Mrs. A. C. Oberheu born on September 11, 1926 in Hartford, SD. In 1943 at the age of 16 he worked for the C.F. Lytle & Green Company, Sioux City, IA on the Alaskan Alcan Highway. After graduating from High School in Canastota, SD in 1945, he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in Frankfurt, Germany. When Robert returned home to Canastota he attended South Dakota State College for a brief time. With a partner, his next adventure was opening up a short order café in Mason, IA called Ray and Bob’s Ice Cream. From there he moved to Rawlins, WY to work in the oil fields and as a plumber. There he met and married Doris Grace Robertson on May 14, 1949. This coming May they would have been married 70 years. Together they had four children: Rick (Rachel) of Delta, CO, Robbin (Davy) of Jackson, WY, Creta of Jackson, WY and Randy (Tristi) of Cody, WY. They have five grandchildren: Fabrianne (Zack), Tyson, Jacob (Janel), Adam (April) and Logan, four great grandchildren: Brooks, Jessa, Nichole and Carson. Robert entered Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, IL in 1952. He served his vicarage at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, NE and graduated from the Concordia Seminary in 1958. He first served the Arena, McClusky, Kongsberg along with Hazen and Underwood congregations in North Dakota. His Sunday route of five services was over a distance of 300 miles. He took his second calling to Gering, NE in 1962 serving as missionary at large where the Faith Lutheran church was established. He served until 1968. Following Gering, Robert took a call to Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton, WY where he served for 15 years. From Riverton he accepted the call to Christ the King in Cody, WY serving until he retired (for the first time). Following Cody he was elected Wyoming District President in April of 1991. Robert and Doris then moved to Saratoga, WY in 1993 to continue serving as District President and as interim of Grace/Platte Valley congregation until June 1994. Robert also served as interim pastor at Craig, CO, the Emblem/ Greybull dual parish and at Christ Lutheran in Rawlins, WY. In addition Robert served the Wyoming District as Chairman of the Commission on Mission and Ministry for 17 years, on the District Board of Directors for 2 years and as District President for 3 years.

Robert is survived by his wife, Doris; his children; grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Emma; brother, Albert; sisters, Hertha, Althea, Elva and Ruth; and his mother-in-law, Nellie Robertson.
