Linda Marie Herbst Cheyenne, Wyoming Died on March 23, 2021, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Linda was born on January 5, 1959, in Riverton, Wyoming. Eight minutes before Linda’s birth, her twin sister, Karen Lee Herbst was born.
Her father was William Frank Herbst and mother is Lois Genevieve Brown Herbst.
Linda was raised on a ranch in the rural Shoshoni area. She attended school at Shoshoni, graduating in 1977, as valedictorian of her class with a full scholarship to the University of Wyoming. During her high school years, Linda served as the manager of the football and basketball teams. Linda played a saxophone in the band until there was a conflict between the band instructor wanting her on the field marching, and she needed to be with the football team prior to games. Linda continued to follow sports teams all her years, and shared this passion with many friends.
The high school students elected her most studious student. Linda was initiated into the Honor Society her Junior Year, and served at the initiation of her twin sister, Karen Herbst, her senior year. Karen was salutatorian of the class and a nice article was printed in the Riverton Ranger about the Herbst Twins.
Besides actively helping on the ranch, Linda oversaw all the cats that her father didn’t mind feeding as the ranch rarely had mice. Linda also raised and showed numerous Hereford market steers for 4-H at the Fremont County Fair. She always had a hard time selling them the fair auction.
Linda was in her Junior year at the University of Wyoming, and instead of coming home for Christmas vacation, she stayed to watch a ball game, and arranged a ride with a neighbor girl. There was an accident that left Linda with severe head injuries. Life was difficult when Linda was finally able to return to her studies. After graduation in 1983 , Linda was employed by the USDA in Greeley, Colorado until receiving a disability retirement.
Linda is survived by her mother, Lois Herbst of Shoshoni, and her twin sister, Karen Herbst, of Dallas, Texas. Linda is also survived by a niece, Emma Herbst, and a nephew, William Herbst, and a great nephew, Steel Herbst, all of Riverton, Wyoming, plus many cousins. Linda was preceded in death by her father, William Frank Herbst, and her only brother, Frank Edward Herbst.
Linda Herbst’s funeral will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Riverton, Wyoming, on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Lake View Cemetery, Shoshoni, Wyoming.
