Funeral services for Thelma Florene Engavo, 65, will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Lander, Wyoming. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Sacajawea Cemetery in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. Ms. Engavo passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at SageWest Hospital in Lander, Wyoming.
Thelma was born on October 6, 1956, daughter of Sam and Elaine (Henan) Engavo in Riverside, California.
She attended dental assistant school in Northwest Indian College in Bellingham, Washington. She worked as a dental assistant while living in Washington as well as for Indian Health Services in Wyoming. Thelma spent most of her life living in Oak Harbor, Washington on Whidbey Island and moved back to Fort Washakie in the early 1990’s where she has remained. Thelma loved to work and especially loved her co-workers that she considered her friends. She honorably served as a civil servant for over 35 years.
Thelma enjoyed sewing, traveling, spending time with her grandkids and shopping.
Ms. Engavo was a member of the Eastern Shoshone Episcopal Mission.
Survivors include her daughter, Erin Engavo-Munnell; sons, Vernon Cayou, Brandon Cayou and Jacob Engavo; sister, Andrea Engavo; auntie, Peg Meyers; uncle, Joe Henan; grandchildren, Nicholas Engavo-Munnell, Tyler Munnell, Milanii Engavo, Jahrel Cayou, Sam Cayou, Ayona Cayou, Millie Cayou and Chadow Cayou.
Ms. Engavo was preceded in death by her parents; niece, Lisa Corbett Pitt; aunts and uncles, Joe Engavo, Mattie Meeks, Ben Henan, Mary Henan, Tony Engavo, Florence Chingman, Viola “Skipper” Smith, Ruth McKay and Thelma Coffee.
