Cordelia Elaine Yellowplume also known by friends and family as Dee-ya began her journey home the evening of July 1, 2022 with her family at her bedside. Her Arapaho name was Heetee’eis meaning Forehead, she was 73 years old. She was the eldest daughter of Royce C. and Hattie Elaine (Quiver) Yellowplume.
The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church Father Andrew Duncan, officiating, with burial to follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 5 2022, held at 266-17 Mile Rd., Ethete, Wyoming, wake to follow.
Cordelia was baptized at St. Stephens Catholic Church, she attended school at St. Stephens Catholic School, up until 11th grade, when it closed down, she then transferred to Riverside Indian School, in Anakarko, Oklahoma, she graduated 1967. She then married Louis Headley, in 1968, they lived in Montana, South Dakota, then finally back to home. They had 5 children and later divorced. She obtained her Associates from Central Wyoming College, 1987, she continued her education at the University of Wyoming she then worked for Child Development, Arapaho Immersion, Lander Valley High School, She was employed at Wyoming Indian Schools as an aide and Culture Teacher until her retirement.
Cordelia is survived by her companion, Keith Chavez, her children Renee Headley & family, Carmen Headley & family, Nira YoungChief & Family, Tyson Headley & Family, Adoptive son, Mac YoungBear, Adoptive brother Matthew ChargingCrow, 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren. And her siblings, Janice Goggles & Family, Cecele Armstrong & Family, Jean Yellowbear & Family, Clarina Yellowplume & Family, Cletus R. Yellowplume & Family. Her childhood friend, Ava Hamiliton, Cousins, Valene Revere, Ruth Mary Goggles, Frances Sanders, and Pat Loneman the extended families Felters, Armajo’s, St. Clair’s, Welch, RidgeBear’s, Quiver’s. MedicineCloud’s, Whiteman’s, Hutchinson’s, Trumbull’s, relatives in Canada, Montana, Oklahoma.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Royce and Hattie (Quiver) Yellowplume, her brothers John SR. and Everett Yellowplume, her son Houston Headley, Grandparents George Quiver, Alberta Welch, Grandparents John and Cordelia Eagle Chieftain Yellowplume. Nephews Cameron and Austin Goggles, John “Catfish” Yellowplume, Niece, Kelly Brooke Antelope.
