Sibilia (Cindy) Apodaca 92 of Riverton passed away on August 11, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. A rosary is scheduled at 7 PM on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Saint Margaret’s Catholic church. Funeral services are scheduled at 10 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Saint Margaret’s Catholic Church.
Sibilia was born on January 12, 1931 in Tucumcari, New Mexico to David Avila and Maria Lovato Avila. She moved to Riverton with her mother and siblings in 1941. She attended school in Shoshoni and Riverton. Sibilia was a member of Saint Margaret’s Catholic Church and the Riverton council of Catholic Women. She also belonged to various clubs including the Women’s Eagles Auxiliary, Arapahoe Extension Club for 40 years and one year was elected Homemaker of the Year. She belonged to the quilter’s guild, the Catholic quilters group, and the Red Hat group.
Sibilia was very competitive and loved playing cards and dominos at the Riverton Senior Center.
On March 13, 1947 she married her soulmate, David Apodaca. Together they raised a wonderful family of five girls and two boys.
Sibilia worked as a sales clerk at Osborne shoe store, DH print, as an assembler, and Wyoming State Training School. She also worked at Wind River Nursing Home, until she retired in 1991.
In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and qualified to attend the national’s bowling tournament in Tucson, Arizona. She loved to dance and especially enjoyed dancing with the love of her life, David. She was an accomplished quilter and seamstress.
Sibilia was a very loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Family was always her first priority, and she never hesitated to put her family and others first.
She is survived by six of her children, daughters, Ruth Martinez, (John), of Riverton, Ann Roybal, Cheyenne, Mary Schrinar, Cheyenne, Theresa Rowell (Bruce) Riverton and sons David Apodaca Jr., Riverton, and Robert Apodaca (Julie) Wright, and brother, Jack Martinez; 17 grandchildren ,41 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Apodaca, her parents, David Avila, and Maria Lovato Avila, daughter, Gloria Boyd, granddaughter Shauna Martinez, sister Lupe Taylor, brothers David and Tony Avila, sons-in-law John Roybal and Howard Schrinar.
