Alvin “Speed” Givens, 87, of Riverton, Wyoming passed away at Wind River Rehabilitation and Wellness Center on January 9th, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Davis Funeral Home.
Alvin Albert Givens was born on December 24, 1936 in Riverton, Wyoming to Donald and Ruby Jane (Coen) Givens. He grew up and lived in Riverton with his wife and family his whole life.
On June 7, 1959 he married Wanda Wissler. Together they had four daughters.
Speed farmed and ranched his entire life. In 2006, he partnered with his grandson, Justin Helton, in the operation of the family farm and eventually retired in his early 80’s. Speed was particularly proud to share his passion with his grandson and great grandchildren, and have them carry on the family tradition of farming.
He enjoyed watching the news and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. His family was the most important thing to him.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wanda Givens; daughters, Sheri Murray, Heather Chamberlain, and Kacee Givens; grandson, Justin (Traci) Helton; granddaughter, Faith (Brett) Schuler; great grandson, Jaxon Stanley; and great granddaughter, Payton Helton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Ruby Givens; daughter, Laura Givens; brothers, Merle and Earl Givens; sister, Mary Lou Fullerton; and nephew, Ronnie Givens.
