In the early morning of April 8th 2024, John Gilmore passed away in his home at the age of 80 with his granddaughter Paige Huntsman by his side. John was born to Samuel Gilmore and Ruth Perkins Gilmore on May 18th 1943, in a cabin in Hilliard Wyoming, near Evanston. He was raised Mormon but found his spiritual faith within the mountain ranges. John was brought up to be hardworking and dedicated to any job. This work ethic followed him throughout his life as he worked on the railroad, the uranium mill, logging, trapping, and later owning and operating his junkyard formerly known as EZ Auto and Recycling. John enjoyed scrapping from a young age and quit school during the 6th grade in order to rummage and fish. John was a private man however, he built relationships everywhere he went. In fact, most of his working relationships had become some of his closest friendships. John married and later divorced Fay Guinard. He assisted in raising her five children and their daughter Sammy “Sis” Swick. While living in Jeffrey City John became close with the Erickson's. He and Judy Huntsman found a love that was unmatched at a New Year's party hosted by the Erickson's almost 40 years ago. John influenced Judy's children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren as well as Eric Erickson and his family. Together John and Judy enjoyed traveling to swap meets and working on mutual projects. John was known as the local “YUP” man at auctions, being a collector and having the ability to “MacGyver” anything.
He spent time being active on the Jeffrey City Fire Department and a local HOA board. John’s stubbornness, love for work, and witty humor kept him going up until the time of his death.
He is survived by one sister Jo Ann Gilmore, loved one Eric Erickson, daughter Sammi “sis” Swick, granddaughter Paige Huntsman, Fourteen nieces and nephews, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and stepchildren. John is preceded in death by his father Samuel and Momma Ruth, sisters Alice, Ruth Virtue, and Mary, and the love of his life Judy, six nieces and nephews, and Step daughters
Per John’s wishes, no services will be held.
