Franklin “Jay Bird” Oldman, 45, of Arapahoe, Wyoming passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Wind River Dialysis Center in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. A Vigil Service with a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm, Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 460 Little Wind River Bottom Road, Rose Oldman Residence. Traditional services will follow. The funeral service will be 10:00 am Monday, June 3, 2024, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church followed by burial at Oldman Cemetery.

 

Franklin James Oldman was born on March 11, 1979 in Riverton, Wyoming to Benjamen Thomas Oldman, Sr. and Rose Marie (Armajo) Oldman. He was an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe and was given his native name of “Old Man Eagle” Hiinooko3onit Beh’eih. He grew up on the Wind River Reservation and graduated from St. Stephen’s High School. He attended Central Wyoming College, and the University of Wyoming. He was close to obtaining his Business Degree.

 

Franklin was baptized into the Catholic faith and participated in the Native American Church.

 

He worked at Great Plains Head Start, Arapahoe Charter, Wind River Casino, and Northern Arapahoe Credit.

 

Franklin enjoyed hand games, going to the casino, attending the Native American Church, and spending time with his family and friends.

 

He belonged to the Gourd Dance Star Society, SharpNose Black Coal Memorial Club, and was on the Arapaho Christmas Committee.

 

He is survived by his mother, Rose Oldman; daughter, Rylee Masters; brothers, Gary Oldman, Sr., Lance Oldman, and Gary Behan; sisters, Alberta Oldman, Joleen Iron, Jessica Oldman, Brook Eagle, Leandra Eagle and Darci Brown; aunts, Roberta Oldman, Carla Geboe, Esther Brady, Rexanne HolyDance, Helen HolyDance, Pauline Oldman, Catherine Eagle, Ruth Mary Goggles, Eveline Blackburn, and Connie Brown; uncle, John Headley; niece, Ryannen Behan; numerous nieces, nephews, and grandkids, and the families of Armajo, Bell, Headley, Behan, SunRhodes, Oldman, Addison, Black, Blackburn, Brown, Gardner, Goggles, Duran, and Whiteplume.

 

He was preceded  in death by his father, Benjamen T. Oldman, Sr.; sisters, Bridget Oldman, and Michelle Oldman; brother, Benjamen Oldman, Jr.; and grandmother Bertha Oldman.
