Francis “Red” Riter, 80, of Shoshoni, Wyoming, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Cremation has taken place and as per his wishes, no services will be held.
Red was born in Broadus, Montana to Everett and Bessie (Kercheval) Riter. He grew up ranching and continued his life with cattle and horses as well as road construction.
His hobby and joy was cowboy polo. Red played on the Greeley, Colorado team and then Centennial Cowboy Polo team for many years, winning several trophies and buckles. While playing with Centennial, they won the World Championship twice and Red won World Champion First Forward buckle in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Suzann (Potts) Riter; daughter, Catherine and her husband, Pat Erhart; son, William and his wife, Lilly (Iden) Riter; granddaughters, Kay and Jon Rayer and Storm and Grant Lindsey; grandsons, Nicholas, Oliver and Finnegan Riter.
