She was born during a blizzard, and she passed during a thunderstorm - one of the last of the greatest generation. She always liked making an entrance!
This was my mom, Lois Goff - a classy, strong, sensitive woman who was everything I hope to be. She was born on January 13, 1930, and left this world on July 15, 2024.
Mom was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to R.D. and Bennetta McClanahan. The baby of the family. She had two brothers, Robert and Donald, and one sister Jackie all of whom preceded her in death. She attended school in Scottsbluff and went on to two years of college.
Her first job was with Sioux Army Depot in Sidney NE. Her cousin introduced her to my dad Marion (T-Bone) Treinen. My parents had three children, Bryan (deceased), Tracy, and Jenniffer (deceased). Our family lived in Sidney until 1967, when we took a vacation to Riverton, Wyoming and Dad interviewed for a job at Riverton Tire & Oil. While vacationing, they decided they were close to Yellowstone and headed for the park. Mom said she would love to see the Tetons and Dad said there wasn’t time. Some how he “missed” the turn to the park and Mom got to see the Tetons. She developed a life-long love for them and returned whenever she could. My parents later divorced.
Mom was working for Phil Flanagan, where she met and married Bill Hinkle, whom she later divorced.
Mom then worked for what is now Farm Credit Services formerly known as Wyoming Production Credit Association. She had a wonderful career there and stayed until retirement. During this time, she met and married Fred Goff. They later divorced.
She was not someone who could sit still, so she went to work for Martha Dale at the Thunderbird. Mom had an active social life and the job really cut into her fun time, so she had to resign.
Mom really enjoyed playing bridge. She would have played every day of the week if possible and then added another day, if possible. She also enjoyed dancing, going out to eat, and a good glass of scotch and water.
A lovely, gracious, and vivacious woman, Mom had so many friends and made them very easily. Her favorite saying was “A friend is not a fellow taken in by sham. A friend is one who knows your faults and does not give a damn.”
Lois is survived by her daughter, Tracy (wife Barbara); son-in-law, Scott Clyde (Jenniffer); grandson, Mike Clyde and wife Kristine; granddaughter, Kellie Johnson; granddaughter, Kori Mac Darby and husband Zack; great-granddaughters, Olivia Clyde, Aaliyah Johnson, Logan Mac Darby and great-grandsons, Devin, Alexander, and Wyatt Clyde. She was so proud of all her grand and great grandchildren.
Mom has been cremated and Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service and reception will be held 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the Elks Lodge in Riverton.
If you wish to make a donation in Mom’s name, please consider the Reach Foundation so that her favorite bridge groups can continue having fun or the Riverton Does Drove, of which she was the oldest living member.
