L.E. “Vern” Kuhn, 90, of Riverton, WY passed away Friday, August 20, 2024 at Cottonwood Health and Rehabilitation in Laramie, WY.   A private family graveside service is planned where Vern will be laid to rest with his wife in the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.

A Celebration of Vern’s life with lunch will be served for family and friends from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Reach Foundation Teton Room located at 622 N. 8th Street West in Riverton.

Vern was born to the late Emil Charles and Louise Elizabeth Kuhn on June 2, 1934 in Rapid City, SD.  He grew up in Rapid City where he met Aileen Joyce Spaid.  They were married in 1953 in Miles City, MT.  Vern worked in the oilfield which took them to Casper, WY, Riverton, WY, Rock Springs, WY, Brighton, CO, Rawlins, WY and back to Riverton in 1978.

Vern retired from Halliburton in 1986, and went right back to work for Majors Equipment in Riverton.  He was a member of the Wyoming Air National Guard for eight years.  Recently, he participated in the playing of TAPS at Riverton’s Veteran Park on Monday and Friday with close friend, Doug Newlin.

He enjoyed outdoor activities such as Elk Hunting, and Fishing in South Dakota with family. Vern especially enjoyed watching the Elk near Jackson, WY migrate each year.

Vern had two passions prior to his passing.  The first was dancing with his dearest companion, Joyce Inman, who survives him.  Second was restoring old Ford Tractors.  He restored more than 50 Ford 8N and 9N models during his lifetime.  Vern also grew a vegetable garden for many years in the community garden at Reach Foundation and volunteered to tend to the wildflowers along one of the walkways there.  A bench will be placed there in his memory soon.

His legacy is the support of the advanced education of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he was unable to obtain because he was called at an early age to support his mom and sisters.

Vern is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Dave) Cheesbrough of Laramie, WY; four grandchildren: Justin (Jaymee) Kuhn of Kuna, ID, Casey (Katie) Cheesbrough of Casper, WY; Kyle (Julie) Cheesbrough of Louisville CO, Alicia Kuhn of Midvale, UT; and five great-grandchildren, Jackson and Owen Cheesbrough of Louisville, CO and Hanna and Willis Cheesbrough of Casper, WY and Alexia Kuhn of Kuna, ID; and several nephews and nieces, namely Jane Clark of Palm Desert, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen; his son, Allen; his parents; brother, Martin; and sisters, Anna May Eaton and Elma Schultz.
