Rodney “Rod” Mills, 90 of Riverton, Wyoming passed away at his home on Monday, September 23, 2024. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at Davis Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 10:00 am at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.

Rodney Dean Mills was born on December 25, 1933, in Curtis, Nebraska to Ira Alvin and Doris Lydia (Guthrie) Mills where he was raised in a farming community in Curtis with his brother and four sisters.

Rod attended Curtis public schools graduating in 1953 where his classmates predicted that he would be the “World Champion Hot Rod Racer.” Apparently, Rod had a need for speed.  He also attended the University of Nebraska school of Agriculture.

After schooling, he entered the United States Army and honorably served for two years with the majority of his service time in Germany.

On June 1, 1959, he married the love of his life Shirley Joan Gilbert. Together they had one son, Gary Dean Mills. In 1964 Rod and Shirley moved to Riverton, and it was their forever home. Rodney worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Gilpatrick Construction before he retired.

Rod enjoyed tending to his yard, woodworking, drives in the mountains, watching western movies and rodeos. He was a man of honor and faith who will be dearly missed by those who knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his son, Gary Mills; daughter in-law Monica; grandchildren, Steven and Emily; and sisters, Ila Faye, Vivian “Bee,” Lois, and Ardith; and his chihuahua companion, Cassie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Doris Mills, his sister Donna, brother Leon, and his beloved wife of 30 years, Shirley.
