Charleen Von Krosigk, 80, of Riverton, Wyoming passed away at her home surrounded by family on Thursday, December 5, 2024.  A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the Fremont Center at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton.

 

Charleen Kaye Banta was born April 6, 1944 in Long Beach, California to Claire Brunt and Mable Juanita (Davis) Banta. She grew up in Rangely, Colorado, Elk Mountain, and Riverton, Wyoming.

 

Charleen was a member of the Christian Church of Riverton, attending and being very active for over 60 years.

 

On May 29, 1960 she married the love of her life, Dean Von Krosigk in Riverton, Wyoming. They had three sons, Clint, Wendell, and Samuel, and one daughter, Laurie. Together they shared over 59 years before Dean passed in 2019.

 

She was a member of the USA Targhee Sheep Assoc., The Wyoming Wool Growers for 40 years, was a 4-H Leader for 20 years for the Valley High 4-H Club as well as serving on the Fremont County Fair Board for 15 years. She also was a member of the Missouri Valley Women’s Club.

 

Charleen was a homemaker and much more, she cared for the family farm, raising shorthorn cattle until they started raising award winning Targhee Sheep. Her sheep were her pride and joy next to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed attending and participating in Targhee Sheep shows, traveling, fishing, camping, all animals, attending church activities, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren especially being at the county and state fairs with them cheering them on. She led her children to hunt and fish and shot her last Antelope just two months before her passing. She will be remembered by many for being at the fairs and raising her beloved Targhee Sheep. She lived on the family farm until 2017 when she moved into Riverton, but was still active in the farm life.

 

She was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s biggest fan in any activity they were in. She was always there. When asked about them she always beamed with pride and told you the latest on each one.

 

She is survived by her sons, Clint Von Krosigk and wife, Jennifer of Riverton, Wyoming, Wendell Von Krosigk and wife, Sandy of Shoshoni, Wyoming, and Samuel Von Krosigk and wife, Kristi of Jackson, Wyoming; son-in-law, Bret Gardner of Shoshoni, Wyoming; brother, Derry Banta and wife Diane of Grand Junction, Colorado; nieces, Derria (Matt) Banta-Farling and Dena (Adolph) Corona; sisters-in-law, Cathy Crichton and France Bonassa; twelve grandchildren, Melissa (Jeremy) Vukich, Chad Charene Herrera) Gardner, Shaylee (Robert) Cruickshank, Randell (Cheyenne) Von Krosigk, Kent (Katie) Von Krosigk, Amber (Justin) Dykes, Taylor (Connor) Davis, Garret (Nicole) Von Krosigk, Reagan Nicolette Barlow) Von Krosigk, Karlee Von Krosigk, Erin (Jack Applegate) Von Krosigk, and Luke Von Krosigk; eleven great grandchildren; and great nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Mable Banta; husband, Dean Von Krosigk; and daughter, Laurie Von Krosigk-Gardner.

 

Memorials may be made to the Charleen VonKrosigk Memorial Fund, to be used for youth activities at church and 4-H, in care of Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main Street, Riverton, Wyoming 82501.
