Obituary for Barbara Anne George
Barbara Anne George, a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and friend to all, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at the age of 76. She was born on December 30, 1947, in Lander, Wyoming, to Harold and LaVerna Ruth (Gidley) Rhoads. Her life was filled with love, adventure, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Barbara, or Barb as she was lovingly called, grew up in Big Piney, Wyoming, where she graduated high school. On November 18, 1967, she married Dennis Dale George in a sweet ceremony at the Plymouth Congregational Parsonage in Fort Collins, Colorado. Their partnership spanned 56 years, filled with shared dreams, hard work, and countless memories.
Together, Barb and Dennis lived in various places, each leaving its mark on their journey. They started their married life in Fort Collins, Colorado, where they stayed for six years. From there, they moved to Canada for a year and then spent 18 beautiful years in the high mountains of Alpine, Arizona. It was there that they raised their two children, Randy and RoxAnne, in a home filled with love and adventure.
In 1989, the couple moved to Riverton, Wyoming, when Dennis became the Central Wyoming College Rodeo Coach. Alongside this role, they pursued their lifelong passion of operating G Bar G Saddles, a business they started in 1970 and worked side by side. Barb was the heart of the operation, and her care and dedication touched every aspect of their work.
Barb had a unique ability to make everyone feel at home. She became a second mom to countless rodeo kids who to this day still consider her family. She was the “team mom” for Dennis’ professional rodeo team in Denver, Colorado, and her loving, supportive presence made a lasting impact on so many lives.
Her love for kids extended into her community as well. Barb was deeply involved in Riverton High School’s FFA and greenhouse program, helping wherever she could. She poured her heart into being there for others, often going above and beyond to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.
Barb had a passion for the outdoors that was as big as her heart. One of her favorite times was being a summer cook for guided pack trips in Yellowstone’s Thorofare. She loved the beauty of nature, the quiet of the forest, and the company of the people she shared those trips with. Fly fishing was another of her favorite pastimes, a hobby that brought her joy and peace.
An incredibly talented woman, Barb enjoyed quilting and sewing, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her care and attention to detail. But her greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren. She was deeply involved in their lives, cheering them on, sharing in their achievements, and showering them with love.
Barb is survived by her husband, Dennis; her son, Randy and his wife Kerry George of Riverton, Wyoming; her daughter, RoxAnne and her husband Jim Juracek of Flat Rock, Michigan; and her beloved grandchildren, Colt and Chase George and their mother Cindy George as well as numerous cousins and their children, Bailey Webber, Hannah and husband J.J. Pingetzer, Ryan and wife Jessica Juracek, and Lexie and husband Vincent Calmeyn. She also leaves behind her special aunt and close friend, Janice Anderson of Riverton; aunt, Dorothy Rine; her niece Jayme Everitt of Springfield, Missouri; and countless friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and LaVerna Rhoads; her brother, Scott Chester Rhoads; and her sister, Bonnie Jean Rhoads.
A celebration of Barb’s incredible life will be held the week of January 20, 2025 at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton, Wyoming. The actual date will be announced. Her ashes will be laid to rest at a later date at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
Barb was a woman who showed love and kindness to everyone she met. Her warmth and generosity were unmatched, and her ability to bring people together made her truly special. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will be treasured forever. Rest in peace, Barb—you will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
