Dale Herman Rodewald, 88, of Riverton, Wyoming, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Wind River Rehabilitation and Wellness. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, where he will rest alongside his beloved wife, Linda.

Dale was born on February 17, 1936, in Bartlett, Illinois, to Erwin Melvin Elmer Rodewald and Helene Margaret Sophie (Kolling) Rodewald. He spent his childhood on Illinois farms before moving to Nebraska in his teens to pursue his dream of becoming a cowboy. Later, he relocated to Craig, Colorado, where he continued his life as a cowboy.

A devout Lutheran, Dale was baptized into the faith and was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Craig, Colorado, where he served as Trustee and President, his family were founding members of the Faith Lutheran Church in Craig, Colorado. After moving to Riverton, Wyoming, he attended Trinity Lutheran Church.

As a cowboy, Dale worked for Warren Livestock and the Greaves family on the Sweetwater and Red Desert. Renowned for his horsemanship, the Greaves family even named a horse after him in recognition of his skill in breaking new stock. In his later years, Dale transitioned to a successful career as a general building contractor.

In 1958, Dale and brothers Duane and Roy traveled to Belgium for the World’s Fair, where they participated in the rodeo. They built the corrals and arena upon arrival and later dined with Gene Autry in New York City upon their return to the United States. Dale cherished his experiences as a cowboy but also enjoyed fishing, water skiing, camping, and spending time with his family, which was always his top priority.

Dale married Linda Livingston, a sheepman’s daughter, on August 4, 1961, in Craig, Colorado. The couple lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, before returning to Craig in the early 1970s to raise their two children, Jay and Kristene. In 2005, they moved to Riverton, Wyoming.

Dale is survived by his son, Jay Rodewald; daughter, Kristene Rodewald; grandson, Jonathan Rodewald; brothers, Duane Rodewald and Glen Rodewald; sister, Joyce Cattoor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Rodewald, in 2023; his parents, Erwin and Helene Rodewald; and his brothers, Roy Rodewald and Don Rodewald.
