Funeral Service
Funeral services for John T. Dent, 72, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 27, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. A viewing will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Dent passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, in Casper, Wyoming.
John Taylor Dent was born on June 13, 1952, in Santa Paula, California, to George and Pauline (Taylor) Dent. He attended school in Moorpark, California, and moved to Riverton, Wyoming, in the late 1980s. In 1991-1992, he attended Central Wyoming College, where he studied Auto Mechanics and earned his mechanical certificate. He graduated alongside his wife, Carolyn.
On November 24, 1990, John married the love of his life, Carolyn Dent, at Trinity Lutheran Church. He and Carolyn were active members of the church. Aside from his children, John considered Carolyn’s agreement to marry him to be his greatest accomplishment.
John was a passionate participant in the Riverton Car and Bike Show for six years, earning two People’s Choice awards in 2007. His hobbies included auto mechanics, woodworking, fishing, barbecuing, riding motorcycles, and taking Jeep rides. He was a simple man who valued hard work and never asked for much. He always earned his keep.
John owned and operated his own mechanic shop and U-Haul dealership for over 30 years. He also worked in the trucking industry, oil fields, and ocean rigs during his career.
Mr. Dent is survived by his sons: Scott J. Castro and his wife, Doris, of Rawlins, Wyoming; Gabriel R. Castro and his wife, Julie, of Riverton, Wyoming; Al R. Castro and his wife, Heather, of Piedmont, South Dakota; and Ronald Dent of California; daughters: Christina Wright of Riverton, Wyoming; Joylene Westmoreland and her husband, Charles, of Shoshoni, Wyoming; and Christina M. Castro of Riverton, Wyoming; his sister, Sharon Mitchell of Ventura, California; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Dent, and his parents, George and Pauline Dent.
