It is with deep sadness, the family of Randy Archer announce his sudden passing on Sunday, January 19, 2025 in Billings, Montana from complications related to open heart surgery.

Randell D. Archer, 75, was born in Riverton, Wyoming on August 23, 1949, to Henrietta J. (Phillips) Archer and Kenneth G. Archer.  He attended school in Riverton and graduated from Riverton High School in 1967.

In 1974, Randy met the love of his life, Linda K. Klepper while out with friends. They danced the night away and married the following year on June 27th at the United Methodist Church in Riverton. Together, the couple had two sons, Kris and Jake Archer.

Randy began his career working for his grandfather, Hub Chopping driving cement trucks and doing excavation work.  He later worked for PJ Barton & Sons Construction doing various projects before founding Archer Construction in 1976, specializing in water lines, concrete work, septic systems, foundations and many excavation projects.

He also had partnered with Don Wilson of Lander forming Wilson-Archer Construction, building Boise Cascade homes.

In the 1980s, Randy launched Lust in the Dust Decommission facility, a company dedicated to the cleaning and decommissioning of leaking underground storage tanks.  He also played a role in the maintenance and reclamation of Uranium mine and mill near Jeffrey City.  Never one to slow down, Randy later designed and constructed The Back Bar with Austin’s Steakhouse in Riverton. He eventually purchased and operated both the bar and restaurant. Randy retired in 2017.

Randy was very active in the community, beginning with the local Jaycees, Elks Club, Riverton Planning Commission, Sertoma/Reach, and the Riverton Rendezvous where Archer Construction sponsored a balloon for the annual rally for several years. Both Linda and Randy were active in the Winter Carnival where they proudly joined several of the “Wuzzies” on a trip to the St Paul Winter Carnival while reigning as King & Queen in 2003. Randy and son Kris often participated in the Winter Carnival ice sculpture contest and appreciated their many wins.

Since 2019, Randy and Linda valued spending their winters in Casa Grande, Arizona. The couple enjoyed riding their side-by-side through the Arizona desert with family and friends.

Randy was a devoted husband and father who deeply loved his boys and family, always putting them first in everything he did. A hardworking man, he built his life through dedication and resilience, navigating the ups and downs of the mining industry with unwavering determination. His strong values live on in his sons, who carry forward his work ethic and perseverance. The family will forever cherish their final vacation together in 2024, a beautiful trip to Hawaii filled with laughter, warm sunshine and ocean breezes, enjoying moments of pure appreciation—especially for the time he spent with his beloved wife.

He had a passion for hunting, fishing, working on cars and collecting unique knives, always wanting to one day “forge his own steel.” He also enjoyed mowing their large yard and “slaying the weeds.”  One of his favorite places was the family cabin near Glacier National Park in Montana, built by his wife’s grandfather.

Randy was a true gentleman, known for his generosity, kindness and willingness to help anyone in need – a trait witnessed time and again by his family and friends. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his hard work, adventurous spirit and passion for life.

Randy is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Linda Klepper-Archer of Riverton; sons, Patrick Davis (Stacy) and grandchildren, Riley and Tanner; Kris Archer (Kyrie Rosen and son, Henry) Kris’ children, Ashlyn (Cody) and Kaden; Jake Archer (Erika Espinosa and children, Julyan, Jalyl, Jayde Espinosa) and their soon-to-arrive baby girl, Savannah, due February 2025; brother, Marvin (April); sisters, Glenda (Dave) Pullen and Cheri (Torr) McCurdy; numerous nieces and nephews; beloved in-laws, Judie and Jerry Criner, Jackie and Louie Greer, Bud and Fay Klepper, Terri and Greg Speasl.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Henrietta (Jimmy) Archer; maternal grandparents, Lena and Hub Chopping and paternal grandparents, Glen and Lorene Archer.
