Eugene Ridgley

Funeral services for Eugene Anthony Ridgley, 63, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Blue Sky Hall.  Interment will follow at the Hugh Ridgley Cemetery.  A Prayer Service followed by a wake will be at Eugene’s residence, 902 Ethete Road, Ethete, WY.

 

Mr. Ridgley passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

 

Eugene was born in Lander, Wyoming on July 16, 1961, son of Hugh Edward and Marcella June (Duran) Ridgley.  He attended St. Stephen’s Indian School up until the 8th grade before attending Lander Valley High School.  Later in life, Eugene pursued his education at Central Wyoming College. 

 

During his youth, Eugene worked on the family farm with many duties such as taking care of the sheep, building fence, milking cows and irrigating.  His father was a very traditional man who instilled his work ethics and Northern Arapaho traditions onto his children.  He once danced in the Sundance, and sporadically attended Sweats, Peyote meetings and Pow Wows. 

 

In his adult years, Eugene worked on the family farm and did some landscaping and handyman work.  He enjoyed spending a few years living in Salt Lake City, Utah and Phoenix, Arizona working construction for 3 years but most of his life was spent living in Ethete, WY.

 

Eugene enjoyed traveling, gambling at the casino, fishing, driving his car, hanging out with his nephews.  He was known as a kind man that enjoyed a quiet life.  

 

Survivors include his sister, Dr. Blanche Mary Ridgley; nephews and nieces, Kayla Lafon Ridgley, Hugh Clarence Ridgley, Michael Sherman. Friday, Anna Ridgley, Sean C. Friday,  grandchildren, Jermone Ridgley, Kayla’s kids, Kyden RidgeBear, Cameron RidgeBear, Takashia, Karesiana, Xavien and Axel Ridgley, daughter of the late Josh Ridgley, Kayla Ridgley;  one great grandson, Sebastian Ridgley (Wendy Rain’s off spring)

 

Mr. Ridgley was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sasha; parents, Burnett and June Ridgley; brothers, Michael Alan Ridgley, Royce Ridgley, Benjamin Martin Ridgley, Augustine Christopher Ridgley, Scott “Bernett” Ridgley; nieces and nephews, Rani Ridgley, Thelma Rose Ridgley,  Joshua Ridgley and Chelsea Mary Friday;  granddaughter, Wendy Rain Ridgley.
